Invites

All About Invites — Getting invites

  • How can I get access to invites? Thanks for your excitement about sharing Clubhouse! 🎉 We allocate invites automatically based on contribution to the community—so just keep hosting great conversations, joining the discussion, and inviting other great contributors, and invites will automatically appear in your account! When you have more invites available, you’ll get an in-app notification.
  • How will I know when I have invites available?
    • When you have invites available, you’ll see an ‘envelope’ icon on your app home screen.
    • When invites are added to your account, you’ll also get a notification in the app. Tap on the ‘bell’ icon from the app home screen to see your recent notifications.
  • How many invites can I get?We generally give out 1-2 at a time, and add more as you continue to contribute!

Sending invites

  • How do I send an invite?
    1. From the Clubhouse app home screen, tap the envelope icon at the top.
    2. On the invite screen, type in the search bar or scroll down and select a contact.
      • Note: the person you want to invite must be saved in your iPhone contact book (country code, area code, and phone number), else they will not be displayed on the invite screen.
    3. Tap the “Invite” button for the person you want to invite. Reminder, once you tap “invite,” your invite will be “spent” on that person (even if you hit “cancel” on the text message).
      • Note: if your contact has two phone numbers available, you’ll see an option to select the desired phone number. However, if you have two separate contacts for the same person, be sure to check your phone contacts to select the correct number.
      • Keep in mind that we’re still iOS only right now, so the person must have an iPhone!
    4. A pop up will appear letting you edit and send a personalized note with the invite 🙂
  • Can I send an invite via e-mail address?Unfortunately, we don’t have an e-mail invite option yet. You’ll need to have the mobile phone number of the person you want to invite saved in your phone contact book.
  • Who can I send an invite to?You can send an invite to anyone you think would be a good voice on Clubhouse!

Note that anyone you invite will have a ‘nominated by’ badge on their profile with your name on it, linked to your profile 🙂 We like to give people credit for inviting great people and help give context for who brought them to the ‘party!’

  • Who should I invite? We want diverse, positive voices on the platform! Invite anyone who you think fits this bill, and bonus points if they’re funny, interesting, exceptional at what they do, etc.

We value gender, ethnic, and other forms of representation, and hope you’ll consider this 🙏

Common invitee questions

  • Can I skip the waitlist? We want to open Clubhouse up to everyone asap, and actively getting the product ready for this! In the meantime, we’re following a process to be as fair as possible.

We are growing primarily through invites right now, and anyone in Clubhouse with an invite can send it directly to you (if you’re on iPhone).

If you know someone who’s already on Clubhouse, we encourage you to ask them politely for an invite 🙂 This is the fastest way to get in, but you can also sign up to our waitlist by downloading the app (you’ll also be able to reserve your username).

  • Do I need an iPhone? We are currently available on iOS only, so anyone you send an invite to should have an iPhone.
  • Do I need a US phone number? No! Although it’s easiest to use a US number, we are now available in the App store worldwide. Note: there are a few countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia for which we’ve had problems related to blocking of invite texts or verification codes by local regulations and telecom providers.
  • I got an invite text. Now what?
    1. Tap the link to download the Clubhouse app!
    2. Once you’ve downloaded the app, begin the onboarding steps.
    • When asked for your phone number, be sure to enter the same one your invite was sent to (this number was pre-approved, so entering another number will waitlist you)
    • You’ll receive a one-time verification code via SMS to that phone number. I
  • Can I use an Ipad? Some people have been able to sign up on iPad, but this isn’t failproof. The key here is that you’ll still need a phone number to register with, and the ability to receive SMS.

You can try these steps for signing up with an iPad —

    1. Download the Clubhouse app to your iPad! You can either copy the invite link you received to your iPad browser, or search the Apple app store for “Clubhouse.” This is the direct link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1503133294
If you didn’t receive the OTP code, here are some potential reasons why.

Common invite issues

  • I sent an invite, but they never got it, help!If you weren’t able to complete sending the imessage, please note, once you tap “invite” on the invite screen, the contact is immediately pre-approved and the invite is “spent.” Even if you don’t send the imessage they will still be able to download the app and join.

Confirm the phone number is correct (just ask the invitee)! Then, check your phone contact book to make sure the correct number is saved.

Then, have your invitees try these steps:

    • For US users: download the app here — https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1503133294. For International users: search the local Apple App store for “Clubhouse”
    • After downloading the app and entering your phone number (must be the same number the invite was sent to), you’ll need to enter a verification code (OTP) sent to you via SMS.
  • I sent the invite to the wrong phone numberOh no ☹️ Unfortunately it’s tough to rescind invites once sent, so we ask that you please confirm the phone number is correct / current before sending to invitees.

If this happens, double check that you’ve saved the correct number, then try sending again.

  • I got an invite, but it waitlisted meIf this happens, it’s most likely because your invite was sent to a different phone number than the number you used signed up with after downloading the app. When these phone numbers don’t match, you can’t access the app and will get waitlisted.

Please check with the person who invited you to see if this happened. You can then either:

    1. Use the number they sent it to (note: you’ll need to be able to receive an SMS on it), or
    2. Ask them to send another invite to a different phone number!
  • My phone number isn’t being recognizedIf this happens, you may be entering a different phone number than the one the invite was sent to (common), or it’s possible the invite was never sent to you (rare).

Please check with the person who invited you to see if this happened. You can then either:

    1. Use the number they sent it to (note: you’ll need to be able to receive an SMS on it), or
    2. Ask them to send another invite to a different phone number!
  • I sent an invite to an Android userWe unfortunately don’t support Android right now, and can’t rescind these invites ☹️ If your invitees happen to have an old iPhone or iPad, they may be able to join following these steps.

We ask that you please check with future invitees to make sure they’re on iOS before sending 🙏

  • I can’t get the verification codeVerifications code expire a few minutes after they are requested, so be sure to enter them right away if you do receive them.

On rare occasion, there may be an issue with the telecom carrier blocking verification codes from being delivered, which we unfortunately cannot circumvent ☹️.

    • In the US, we see this rarely (with T-mobile and AT&T), and your carrier may be able to help.
    • Abroad, this has been common with +234 country codes and others serving Africa; we’ve seen some of these users have success contacting their provider for support, or using another local telecom provider.
